A "leader" is defined as someone in control of a group, organization, or country. They can also be the person winning a race or competition, the most successful entity in a market, or the principal violinist in an orchestra (in British English, the conductor is also called a leader). In newspapers, a "leader" refers to the editor's opinion piece or the most important story.
