Lend Lent Sth N   [V Support Borrow Loan

The word "lend" is a verb with multiple meanings: 1. To lend money (to someone) or to loan. 2. To lend something to someone for a period of time. 3. To provide or give support. 4. To make something suitable or easy for something. 5. To add or bestow a certain quality. It also has some fixed expressions, such as "lend an ear" (to listen), "lend a hand" (to help), and "lend support to something" (to support something). It's important not to confuse "lend" and "borrow," as the former means "to lend out" and the latter means "to borrow." The verb conjugations are lent, lending, and lends.

lend 是一个动词,有多种含义:1. 借钱(给某人)或贷款。2. 把某物借给(某人)使用一段时间。3. 提供或给予支持。4. 使(某事物)适合或易于(做某事)。5. 增添或赋予某种特质。 它还有一些固定搭配,如 lend an ear(倾听)、lend a hand(帮忙)、lend support to something(支持某事)。需要注意的是,don't confuse lend 和 borrow,前者表示“借出”,后者表示“借入”。 动词变位为 lent, lending, lends。

      Usage Note :

Do not confuse lend and borrow. You say that you borrow something from another person. However, if you allow someone to borrow something that belongs to you, you say that you lend it to them. Lend is often followed by two objects. Betty lent him some blankets... He lent Tim the money. Both borrow and lend can be used without objects. The poor had to borrow from the rich... Banks will not lend to them. The noun related to lend is loan. ...a government loan of £3m.Loan can also be used as a verb in the same way as lend, especially in American English. I'll loan you fifty dollars.

不要混淆lend和borrow。借他人东西用borrow... from...,借东西给他人则用lend...to...。lend后常接双宾语,如:Betty lent him some blankets(贝蒂借给他几条毛毯),He lent Tim the money(他把钱借给了蒂姆)。borrow和lend均可不接宾语,如:The poor had to borrow from the rich(穷人不得不向富人借钱),Banks will not lend to them(银行不会贷款给他们)。与lend相关的名词是loan:a government loan of £3m(一笔300万英镑的政府贷款)。loan还可用作动词,用法与lend相同,尤其是在美国英语中:I'll loan you fifty dollars(我会借给你50美元)。
