To observe and draw cells, prepare a slide with a specimen, stain, and coverslip, then view under a microscope using objective lenses and focus knobs, and finally draw the observations with a pencil.
To observe and draw plant and animal cells, prepare a slide by adding a specimen to water on a slide, applying a stain (iodine for plant, methyl orange for animal), and covering it with a coverslip. Then, use a microscope, starting with the lowest power objective lens and adjusting focus with coarse and fine knobs, before drawing observations in pencil.

Back | Preparing slide: 1. Add a drop of water to glass slide 2. Add specimen onto the water on the slide using tweezers 3. Add stain - iodine solution if it is a plant cell, methyl orange if it is an animal cell 4. Place a cover slip over the specimen Using microscope: 1. Put prepared slide on the stage 2. Select the lowest-powered objective lens 3. Use the coarse adjustment knob to move the stage into focus 4. Adjust the focus with the fine adjustment knob 5. Draw observations with pencil |
