Literally Translated Mom Room Adv 副词   [Adv Word

英语单词 literally
英美音标 英 ['lɪtərəli] 美 ['lɪtərəli]
中文释义 adv.逐字地;按照字面上地;不夸张地;正确地;简直
英语例句 (1) He translated this article literally.
(2) Idioms usually cannot be translated literally in another language.
(3) He literally flew into the room.
(4) I literally jumped out of my skin.
中文例句 (1) 他一字一句地翻译这篇文章。
(2) 成语通常不能照字面译成另一种语言。
(3) 他简直是飞也似地跑进了房间。
(4) 我简直给吓了一大跳。
vocabulary简明 The adverb literally means "actually," and we use it when we want others to know we're serious, not exaggerating or being metaphorical.
vocabulary扩展 If your mom complains that your room is overflowing with clothes, she probably doesn't mean this literally. Your room might be messy and chaotic, but your clothes aren't actually piled so high that they're flowing into the hallway. Your mom is being figurative — she's exaggerating. Now, if your clothes really were piled up so high that they were flowing into the hallway, your mom would say, "Your room is literally overflowing with clothes!"
