vocabulary简明 A place is a position, an area, a spot, or a space. Texas is a place in the United States, and your seat at dinner is your place at the table.
vocabulary扩展 In the old saying "A woman's place is in the home," place means both an "appropriate location" as well as "proper social situation." Thankfully, Bella Abzug updated that notion by saying "A woman's place is in the House... the House of Representatives." Place can also be a verb: you can place, or set down, books on a table. If you can't place the person to whom you've just been introduced, you are having trouble identifying that person.
