| 英美音标 | 英 [prɪ'fɜː(r)] 美 [prɪ'fɜːr] |
| 中文释义 | vt.宁可;较喜欢;提出(控告) |
| 英语例句 | (1) All this gracious living is not for me;I prefer the simple life. (2) Which one do you prefer, an apple or an orange? (3) Police preferred charges against him for theft. |
| 中文例句 | (1) 这种优裕的生活对我不合适;我还是更喜欢简朴的生活。 (2) 你想要哪个,苹果还是橘子? (3) 警方指控他有偷窃行为。 |
| vocabulary简明 | Prefer means to like better. If your parents prefer your sister to you, chances are her allowance will be higher and you'll get blamed for things she's done. |
| vocabulary扩展 | If someone offers you hamburgers and hot dogs, it's more polite to say, "I'd prefer a hot dog," then "Blech, hamburgers. Gag me!" Note that prefer means not just to like, but to like better––you're comparing two or more things. Whether it be chocolate ice cream over other flavors, or getting going first thing in the morning as opposed to lounging in your PJs, what you prefer is called your preference. And if you like them all the same, you can say you have no preference |
| 柯林斯解释 | 1 [VERB 动词]更喜欢;偏好 If you prefer someone or something, you like that person or thing better than another, and so you are more likely to choose them if there is a choice. [V n] [V n [V to-inf] [V n to-inf] [V -ing] [V n adj] [V-ed] [Also V that] [no cont]
Usage Note : Note that prefer can often sound rather formal in ordinary conversation. Verbal expressions such as like…better and would rather are used more frequently. For example, instead of saying 'I prefer football to tennis', you can say 'I like football better than tennis', instead of 'I'd prefer an apple', you can say 'I'd rather have an apple', and instead of 'I'd prefer to walk', you can say 'I'd rather walk'. 注意,prefer在日常对话中听起来往往很正式,像like…better和would rather这样的口头表达更为常用。例如,我们一般用I like football better than tennis(我更喜欢足球,而不太喜欢网球)代替 I prefer football to tennis,用 I'd rather have an apple(我宁愿吃苹果)代替 I'd prefer an apple,用 I'd rather walk(我宁愿走路)代替 I'd prefer to walk。 |
