vocabulary简明 A stranger is someone you don't know or who doesn't belong in a specific place.
vocabulary扩展 Parents tell their kids, "Don't talk to strangers." That's because strangers are people they don't know, who could be dangerous. Just like strange things are odd or weird, a stranger is unknown and therefore potentially scary. Also, anyone out of place can be considered a stranger. A fireman in a police station is a stranger, and a mascot in a scientific lab is a stranger. Either type of stranger is likely to make someone say, "Who's that?"

    Usage Note :

You do not use stranger to talk about someone who comes from a country which is not your own. You can refer to him or her as a foreigner, but this word can sound rather rude. It is better to talk about someone from abroad.

    指非本国人不能用 stranger,要用foreigner,但 foreigner 一词听起来很不礼貌。更恰当的说法是 someone from abroad。
