Definition | to take a risk; to do something even though it is unpleasant, difficult or dangerous |
Examples | - If you really like him, why don't you take the plunge and ask him out. Maybe he's too shy to ask you! - I'd really like to quit my job and start again somewhere else but I'm too scared to take the plunge. |
Note | To plunge means to dive, e.g. into water. |
