Back | To burn the surface of something with very high heat, or to cook meat quickly at a high temperature to keep in the juices and flavor. As my mind scanned (to look at quickly) this area of my back, it imagined two white-hot spots searing through my flesh. Nichole could smell the food. She tried to be dispassionate, but the smell made her even hungrier. It felt like something was searing her stomach. That image was seared [=burned] into my memory. [=I cannot forget that image] |
