Back | Tone shifts sginificantly in the second stanza from one of fear and danger in stanza 1 to a distant thoughtful tone, it then switches back again for the final stanza but while the tone is similar to stanza one the reason for his running has changed. In stanza 1 he still was still "patriotic" even if it was causong him pain, but in stanza 3 he simply is trying to escape alive. |
