Urban Barren Wasteland Refer Meriam American City Centers

Front American city centers were abandoned after WWII in favor of suburban development, leaving behind an urban wasteland devoid of not only infrastructure but also culture.

Just wanted to add that even an urban wasteland does not only refer to uninhabited or barren land. It can also have these shades of meaning, per Meriam Webster:

2 : an ugly often devastated or barely inhabitable place or area
3
: something (as a way of life) that is spiritually and emotionally arid and unsatisfying

The first definition offered by Meriam Webster is indeed uncultivated or barren land, but I think it is more common nowadays to refer neutrally to a barren urban landscape as "undeveloped" whereas "wasteland" often has more negative connotations, as cited above.
