Back | Just wanted to add that even an urban wasteland does not only refer to uninhabited or barren land. It can also have these shades of meaning, per Meriam Webster: 2 : an ugly often devastated or barely inhabitable place or area 3 : something (as a way of life) that is spiritually and emotionally arid and unsatisfying The first definition offered by Meriam Webster is indeed uncultivated or barren land, but I think it is more common nowadays to refer neutrally to a barren urban landscape as "undeveloped" whereas "wasteland" often has more negative connotations, as cited above. |
