| comment | We use the quantifiers ‘much’, ‘many’, ‘lots of’, ‘a lot’ to talk about quantities, amounts and degree. We can use them with a noun (as a determiner) or without a noun (as a pronoun). We use ‘much’ with singular uncountable nouns and ‘many’ with plural nouns. ‘Lots’ and ‘a lot’ are similar in meaning to ‘much’ and ‘many’, but we use ‘lots’ and ‘a lot’ in informal styles to talk about quantities, amounts and degree. ‘Lots’ is even more informal than ‘a lot’. The quantifier ‘little’ has a negative meaning and we use it to mean ‘not as much as may be expected or wished for’. We use ‘little’ with singular uncountable nouns.At the beginning of the test sentence ‘How ______ photos do you need?’ there is a word ‘How’ and then a noun ‘photos’ in the plural form. The quantifier ‘lots of’ cannot be used after the question word ‘how’.Therefore, we choose ANSWER 4 – ‘many’. |
