Front Homophone
Back Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings. Some homophones are pronounced the same way and spelled the same way but have different meanings; others are pronounced the same way but are spelled differently and have different meanings. An example of homophones is: weather, whether, wether — all of which are pronounced exactly alike (/ˈwɛðə/), but have entirely different meanings. (NB: some dialects of English still pronounce the 'wh' differently from 'w', so whether is pronounced as /ˈʍɛðə/ or /ˈhwɛðə/. Thus for some dialects of English, weather is not a homophone of whether.)
