Homöopathie, coined 1824 in Ger. by Ger.physician Samuel Friedrich Hahnemann (1755-1843) from Gk.homoios "like, similar, of the same kind" (an expanded form of homos "same;" see same) + -patheia "effect," from pathos"suffering" (see pathos).
