1. : any of various florists' primroses formerly supposed to have been derived from a species primula (Primula elatior) but now usually considered a complex hybrid (P. polyantha) prob. derived from three primulas (P. veris, P. elatior, and P. vulgaris)
2. or polyanthus narcissus : a narcissus (Narcissus tazetta) having small umbeled white or yellow flowers with a spreading perianth and shallow crown and cultivated in several varieties
