CRIME
A crime is illegal or against the law. A person who commits a crime is a criminal. There are different words for particular crimes and the people who commit them. A murderer commits murder. A kidnapper kidnaps someone. Terrorists use violence for political reasons and commit acts of terrorism. For example, they sometimes hijack planes. Vandals commit vandalism.
It is the job of the police to investigate crimes and try to catch the criminal. If the police think sb may have committed a crime, that person is a suspect. When they have enough evidence the police can arrest and charge them with the crime. If the suspect confesses to the crime, they admit that they did it. If they deny the charge, they say that they did not do it.
