HOUSES
If
you want to move house, you
go to an estate agent (US real estate agent), who is
a person whose job is to sell property. The money that you borrow in order to buy a house is
called a mortgage. A
party given by sb who has just moved
into a house is called a house-warming.
You
can extend your
house to make it bigger. You do up/renovate
your house, by repairing and decorating it. If you do the work yourself, it is
called DIY:
They're spending the weekend doing DIY.
Otherwise you may need a plumber (to fit or repair
water pipes, bathrooms, etc.), an electrician (to connect or repair the electrical system) or a carpenter (to make
or repair wooden structures).
House ile home
arasındaki farka dikkat ediniz. Home, içerisinde yaşadığınız, bir ev
olmasa da kendinizi oraya ait hissettiğiniz yerdir:
Let's go home to my flat.
House ise sadece binanın kendisidir:
We've only just moved into our new house
and it doesn't feel like home yet.
