Text | The word "agent," in this podcast, means a person whose job is to represent actors, musicians, writers, or other types of artist to help them find work: "Ingot's agent suggested he audition for three Broadway musicals." An "agent" can also be something that creates change: "Cell phones have been an important agent of change for how people communicate with one another." An "undercover agent" or a "secret agent" is a law enforcement officer who does not wear a uniform and tries to learn information by pretending to be someone else: "A secret agent was able to develop a close relationship with several of the gang members, learning about their drug deals." Finally, a "double agent" is a spy who works for two countries at the same time: "He worked as a double agent, selling U.S. secrets to the Russian government and Russian secrets to the U.S. government." |
