A "shock" can also be a strong feeling of surprise, either negative or positive: "Hearing that she had won one million dollars was a huge shock for everyone." In medicine, "shock" is a medical problem that happens when one has suffered a major injury, has probably lost a lot of blood, and is very weak: "Rebecca was in shock after the accident, so the doctors kept her in the hospital for two days." Finally, a "shock" can be the painful feeling that one gets when accidentally touching electricity: "If you touch that electric fence, you'll get a shock!" |
