Text The verb "to shave," in this podcast, means to use a razor blade to cut hairs very close to the skin, so that the hairs cannot be seen or felt: "Gretchen cut her ankle while she was shaving her legs this morning." Finally, the phrase "a close shave" is a close call, or a situation where someone barely escaped an accident or danger: "The road was icy and the car almost hit a tree. That was a close shave!"
