The phrase "to dig (one's) heels in" means to be very stubborn and not do what other people want one to do: "The more her parents tried to get her to change her mind, the more she dug her heels in." Finally, the phrase "to dig a hole for (oneself)" means to do or say the wrong thing and end up in a difficult situation: "Anyone who complains about a previous boss during a job interview is just digging a hole for himself." |
