| Text | In this podcast, the word "platform" means a large, flat, raised (elevated) surface where people can stand and wait for a train or similar vehicle: "Which platform should I stand on to wait for a train to uptown?" When talking about politics, a "platform" is all the ideas, objectives, and promises of a political party or a candidate: "Lowering unemployment, improving education, and repairing streets are some of the main issues in her platform." The phrase "a platform for (something)" refers to a venue or opportunity to share one's message with many people: "They turned the protest into a platform for their religious beliefs."
