Text | The phrase "to take the plunge," in this podcast, means to decide to do something that is risky or scary: "Ryan and Martha have been dating for seven years, and they've finally decided to take the plunge and get married." A "plunge" can be sudden, dramatic decrease: "What caused the recent plunge in the stock market?" When talking about swimming, a "plunge" is a jump or a dive into the water: "You have time for just one more plunge into the pool, and then we need to dry off and go home."
