Phrase | premium |
Text | In this podcast, the word "premium" means an extra or additional amount of money or value that makes something better than other versions of the same thing: "Our premium tour package includes a suite at a five-star hotel and meals at gourmet restaurants." If something is "at a premium," it is scarce, meaning that many people want to buy or have it, but few items or units are available: "Real estate is at a premium in Manhattan." The phrase "to put a premium on (something)" means to think something is worth more than other things, or to value something more highly: "Their family has always put a premium on education." At a gasoline station, "premium" is a type of gasoline with very high quality that costs more than regular gasoline: "Lynn buys only premium gasoline for her new luxury car." |
