When talking about emotions, "relief" is the good feeling when a lot of fear, pain, or worry has ended: "Everyone smiled with relief when the police announced that they had found the little girl." The phrase "pain relief" describes the reduction or removal of pain: "These pills should provide some pain relief while your broken bones are healing." Finally, when talking about maps, the phrase "in relief" describes a map that shows the different heights of things: "Do you have a map that shows these mountains in relief?" |
