The verb "to seem" means to appear to be true: "That seems like a bad idea." The phrase "couldn't seem to do (something)" means that one tried to do something but could not succeed: "No matter how hard we tried, we couldn't seem to fit everything back into the box." Finally, the phrase "seem to do (something)" can be used to show uncertainly: "I seem to have lost my glasses." |
