The phrase "speak for yourself" is used to let someone know that one does not share his or her opinions: "Laura spoke as if everyone shared her thoughts, but Richard said, 'Speak for yourself!'" Finally, the phrase "to speak up for (someone)" means to use one's words to support or defend someone: "Why didn't anyone speak up for Samantha when she wasn't there to do it herself?" |
