Front | What simile is used to describe Marley in Stave 1, what follows it and why? |
---|---|
Back | "Old Marley was as dead as a doornail. Mind! I don't mean to say I know of my own knowledge what is particularly dead about a doornail." Dickens is breaking the fourth wall and setting up a narration on the story which lightens it. It also sets up a strange theme of humour which is used to lighten the mood and make it more enjoyable to read. |
