Dickens uses the word pun to emphasise Scrooge’s
disbelief as well as add humour to lighten the mood and exaggerates Scrooge’s
likeness to a caricature of misery and penurious.
- Making jokes is also out of character for Scrooge so it could show the unerving effect the ghost has had on him
