Ich schätze und verehre die Wurzel nicht mehr, welcher sie entsprungen; ich habe seitdem erfahren, daß jene zu einer Abart gehörte, welche nur mit Goldstaub gedüngt werden konnte, – und ich liebe die Blüte nur noch zur Hälfte, besonders wenn sie so künstlich aussieht, wie in diesem Augenblick.

Not valuing now the root whence it sprang; having found that it was of a sort which nothing but gold dust could manure, I have but half a liking to the blossom, especially when it looks so artificial as just now.
