Women Working Class Unmarried Ostracised Society.   Vulnerable Lived

Question Unmarried women were almost ostracised from society.
Answer They were vulnerable and often lived in total poverty. If an unmarried, working class woman became pregnant, like Eva did, she didn’t have many options available to her. Many risked backstreet abortions rather than facing the stigma of having a child out of marriage. Many working class women were forced into prostitution - ‘onto the streets’ - if they became unemployed, because there was no other choice.
