Back He removed the hats of two different sub-species of giant algal cells, swapped their stalks and the plants developed intermediate hats with features of both species (cytoplasm and nucleus were contributing), the intermediate hats were removed, new hats grew that complemented their nucleus in the rhizoid. This proved that the nucleus was coding for the cell features
