Skin Melanocyte Melanin Pigment Nucleus Uv Exposure Triggers

Front what is melanin and how is it produced to achieve it's purpose
Back it is a dark pigment (absorbs light) which gathers around the nucleus in response to UV exposure to protect the DNA from damage to make you less susceptible to skin cancer

UV exposure triggers the production of melanocyte stimulating hormone (MSH) which increases the number of the MSH receptors on melanocyte cells that the MSH binds to. this triggers the melanocyte cell to synthesize melanin and put the pigment in vesicles called melanosomes which transfer into skin cells and collect around the skin cell nucleus for protection (darkens the skin)
