Text | Lady Macbeth's lines 64-8 are filled with double meaning 'provided for' = fed (or killed): 'business' = feasting (or murder): 'dispatch' = being welcoming (or killing) Lady Macbeth is subtly testing Macbeth to see how he will respond to the suggestion that they kill Duncan? Lady Macbeth is till unsure of doing such a deed and so has to disguise her words, even to herself? Shakespeare is adding to the tension of the play - in showing that they hae not decided what to do, there is still some uncertainty about how the action will unfold? |
