HBV DNA polymerase possesses both DNA- and RNA-dependent activities. Upon entering the host cell nucleus, it completes viral DNA replication. Host RNA polymerase then transcribes viral DNA into mRNA for viral protein synthesis, and the viral DNA polymerase reverse transcribes viral RNA into DNA, forming the genome of progeny viruses.
