MIC (Minimal Inhibitory Concentration) is amount of drug in which no growth of a bacterial isolate will occur

MBC (Minimal Bactericidal Concentration) is amount of a drug in which there will be no bacterial growth after the drug is removed

MBC = MIC is normal

Amount of drug necessary to kill all bacteria is never less than amount required to inhibit their growth temporarily (hence MBC always > MIC)
