Cross Pregnancy Viruses Placenta Placenta  Coxsackie B Hiv

Four viruses that can cross the placenta are Coxsackie B, HIV, B19, and CMV, with Rubella, HBV, and HSV2 also capable under certain conditions.

Rubella (Togavirus) → Highly teratogenic in early pregnancy and prevented by vaccination in childhood or 16 weeks prior to pregnancy

HBV → may occur in utero

HSV2 → Cross placenta if the mother acquires Herpes during pregnancy

RSV and other respiratory viruses will not cross placenta
