Influenza pandemics result from genetic shift, where viruses with segmented genomes exchange segments with other hosts, creating novel viruses to which populations are naive.
Influenssapandemiat johtuvat geneettisestä ajautumisesta ja segmentoitujen genomien vaihdosta muiden isäntien kanssa, mikä luo uuden viruksen, johon ihmispopulaatio ei ole altistunut.

Back | ↓ Virus with segmented genomes (orthomyxovirus) exchange segments with non-human hosts causing reassortment and transfer of genetic information (hemagglutinin and neuraminidase). This result in anew virus with a combination of surface antigens that never been exposed to the human immune system anywhere on the planet making entire human population susceptible to a pandemic Other commonly tested segmented viruses include Bunyavirus, Arenovirus, Reovirus |
