Parvovirus B19 causes erythema infectiosum and aplastic crisis in sickle cell patients; it can also lead to arthritis in older individuals and hydrops fetalis or fetal death in pregnant women.
Parvovirus B19 infection can cause erythema infectiosum (fifth disease) and aplastic crisis in sickle cell anemia patients. In adolescents and adults, it can lead to rheumatoid arthritis and RBC aplasia. In pregnant women, it can cause hydrops fetalis and fetal death.
