Meningitis Cryptococcal Fungal Lung C.Neoformans Diseases Caused Immunocompromised

C. neoformans causes fungal meningitis and pneumonia in immunocompromised individuals; meningitis is the most frequent manifestation, arising from often asymptomatic pulmonary infections.

In immunocompromised individuals, C. neoformans can cause fungal meningitis and fungal pneumonia. Meningoencephalitis is the most common manifestation, occurring after dissemination from often asymptomatic lung infections.

Meningoencephalitis is the most common clinical manifestation of cryptococcal disease → initial site of inoculation with Cryptococcus is the lung → meningitis happens after yeast disseminate → patients present more often with cryptococcal meningitis because many cryptococcal lung infections are asymptomatic
