Staphylococcus saprophyticus is Gram (+), catalase (+), coagulase (-), urease (+), novobiocin resistant, and γ-hemolytic; it is normal flora of the female genital tract and causes uncomplicated UTIs, particularly in young college-aged women ('honeymoon cystitis').
