• beta haemolytic
• lancefield group B
• known as Group B Streptococci (GBS)
• mostly diseases of neonates

In all Streptococci:
• Gram-positive cocci in chains
• Catalase negative
• Clear-grey-white, glistening, smooth, round colonies
• Fastidious media requirements
• Ferments carbohydrate to produce acid (hence LAB)
• Facultative anaerobes or capnophiles
