Explanation | Suppose you are a hunter of small animals. One runs into the bushes. To get it out, you should beat on the bush with a stick. But you don't actually do that. You beat all around the bush but not right on it. If you talk all around a subject without ever coming to the point, you're "beating around the bush." |
