You use likewise when you are comparing two things and saying that they are similar. If you do one thing, and someone else does, likewise, they do the same thing.
Patients don't get better during their therapy but between their therapy times. Students likewise don't learn so much during class as they do between classes.
I used to dream about escaping my ordinary life, but my life was never ordinary. I had simply failed to notice how extraordinary it was. Likewise, I never imagined that home might be something I would miss.
