If something is worthwhile, it is important or useful, or you gain something from it.
If you need him on this project, you've got to make it financially worthwhile for him (= you will have to pay him a suitable amount of money for the amount of work involved).
So Brad had a very worthwhile purpose. He had a very worthwhile reason for needing money. And, so, of course, he got a gun and he went to a convenience store.
Was his purpose worthwhile? Was it good, beneficial, useful?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile if you just smile.
