Meaning | to succeed or fail completely; to take the chance of ruining oneself in trying to succeed |
Origin | Do means to achieve or get something done. "Die" doesn't necessarily mean that your life will end if you don't accomplish what you set out to. It is an exaggeration. If you make a do-or-die effort, you're trying your hardest to succeed, no matter what obstacles might be in the way. |
