Origin | This modern African-American expression comes from the game of basketball. If a player gets possession of the ball and takes it all the way to the hoop and makes a basket, he or she is succeeding perfectly at what he or she set out to do. The saying is also applied to any area of life in which you carry out an undertaking all the way to its successful conclusion. |
