Idiom | Make Your Mouth Water |
---|---|
Example | Seeing those posters of Hawaii made my mouth water for a vacation on a beach. |
Meaning | to look so attractive and desirable that it makes you want to have it very much; to want to eat or drink something that looks or smells delicious |
Origin | This expression was used as early as the mid-1500s, but since time began, people have known that the sight, smell, or even thought of food can make a person's salivary glands start up, causing the mouth to water. Though this saying is often used in connection with food or drink, it can really be used when looking forward to something that you want a lot. |
