Nose Follow Cafeteria Straight Ahead Asked I Told

Idiom Follow Your Nose
Example When he asked me the way to the cafeteria, I told him to follow his nose.
Meaning to go straight ahead in the same direction
Origin This saying was being used as early as the 15th century, maybe even earlier. Your nose is in the middle of your face, pointing straight ahead of you. So, if you "follow your nose," you proceed directly ahead. This saying usually has nothing to do with the nose's ability to smell things. However, someone directing you to the school cafeteria, a perfume factory, or a skunk farm might also tell you to "follow your nose," even if you have to take three lefts and a right.
