Notes -고 is a universal common ending used to link two clauses. If these two clauses describe parallel or independent actions or states, -고 operates like an additional connective 'and'. If the two clauses describe situations that are not parallel and take place in succession, -고 plays the role of a sequential connective 'and then'. In its special usages, -고 can mark action states or operate as a sentence ending.
-고 attaches to verb or adjective stems and can be preceded by tense markers.
